Essential Guide to Lubrication

Lube is quite probably our best selling product overall. Lube is for everybody. People of all ages love it and just can’t seem to get enough. At Sinsin’s we are confident that we only stock the best and the most popular brands.

What is Lubrication?

Lubes are an enhancement to any natural body juices, as well as a replacement if you cannot produce any naturally. For those of you who have never used a lube before you simply must give it a go. Treat yourself to one of our sample sachets that won’t cost you a packet but could quite possibly change your sex life in a big way! Apply a few drops initially; as a little tends to go a long way. Buy a few different types before you make your final decision as to what really works best for you.

Who Uses Lubrication?

It’s for everybody - both men and women. It’s great for all sexual purposes and can benefit anyone’s sex life. However for those of you who are in physical need of lube for whatever reason we would like to emphasise that you are normal! Not every woman will automatically produce natural lubrication when required due to many factors ranging from hormonal fluctuations, stress, tiredness, drugs, alcohol, the menopause or even the ageing process.

What is Lube Used For?

Lube has a variety of uses from massage to masturbation to penetration. It is ideal for any general sex purpose, especially for penetration and is great for use with toys. Lube is also absolutely vital for anal penetration as the rectum doesn’t produce any natural lubrication. (See our Essential Guide to Anal Play). You are at risk from infections if you split your rectal wall – it’s very painful and is difficult to heal.

Types of Lube

Water-Based Lubes:

These are the safest lubes to use and we highly recommend them; they are all 100% safe with condoms. They are often tasteless (apart from the flavoured ones!), odourless, non-staining, non-irritant and easy to wash out. Simply apply them to the genitals and away you go! The way they work and remain slippery is that they react with any natural lubrication that you may produce, this maintains the fluidity. When you are no longer in need of its services the lube will naturally soak into your skin and you won’t know it’s there – apart from having nicely moisturised skin! If you cannot produce any natural lubrication at all simply apply the lube to the required areas as usual – it’s possible you’ll need to add some saliva or water to keep it going, as the best way to reactivate a waterbased lube which has dried or gone sticky on the skin before you wish it to is to apply some saliva or water to the area and hey presto – rejuvenated lube! Some waterbased lubes are glycerin-free and so are naturally less sticky and good for general massage (those containing glycerin tend to dry out too quickly for general body massage).

Silicone-Based Lubes:

Silicone lubes have the advantage of never drying up (i.e. they don’t get absorbed into the skin) but this also means they need to be washed off after use, using soap, otherwise you’ll stay slippery! These are superior types of lube, famed for never being sticky or tacky and for being extra long-lasting, they’re great for use in the shower, bath or for massage. They all leave your skin feeling soft and supple after use. A little goes a very long way which makes them economical to use. Silicone lubes are condom safe but mustn’t be used with silicone toys as adverse reactions can occur. Also beware as they may stain some fabrics, so do a test patch first.
